Please pray for Laurille, Joey, Alyson, Tiffany, Karina, and Andrew as they receive the Sacrament of Confirmation next Sunday, May 5th at the 5pm Mass.
Thank you for your continued support with our 2024 Catholic Appeal Campaign. I wanted to give you a 2 minute update on results as of this Wednesday, which are very impressive. In just three months our campaign is at 80% of it’s goal with $40,217 raised.
This past week, I received a long and great email from one of our parishioners who was asking about the lawns and gardens. After answering a few concerns, I saw that they were already getting to the project of the gardens and lawns here and at St. James. One of the more important works is to prune. It is the practice of cutting off dead branches or cutting back the lower flowers or branches. In the case of trees, it is done to allow more growth.
A retreat about getting away from the busyness of everyday life so we can connect with each other and connect with God. It’s an opportunity to learn more about the Holy Spirit and how it acts in our lives. The day includes music, food, laughs, videos, small group discussions, and prayer ministry.
Anna Lenney is our Administrative Assistant here at MQOA, she has been on the job for a couple of months and has taken on multiple projects. In the short time, she has been a true blessing to our parish and staff!
We want to thank all those who attended the Divine Renovation Ministry's Unlocked event yesterday! We are so grateful for taking time out of your day to spend time focusing on parish renewal! #comeholyspirit #maintenacetomission
This past week I, Stephen, and some members of the parish traveled to Hamden Connecticut to join with other parishes that are actively engaging in parish renewal using the Divine Renovation Model. This model was developed by a priest in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
My work took me away from home a lot last fall, and so I was at a different Catholic parish every weekend. All the same Catholic Mass—and, depressingly, the same experience of being the unwelcomed stranger in a strangely familiar land. Many of the parishes had a greeter smiling at the front door with a bulletin in hand. There was often an invitation from the pulpit for all visitors to stand and be welcomed. At one parish, I even received a shiny little gift bag with a ballpoint pen and a coffee cup, both bearing the name of the parish.
It is now officially wedding season at the parish. Although all year round we welcome couples, the busiest part of the season usually begins after Easter and lasts until the end of September. Although it has been unseasonably cold right now, we still have flowers blooming and the Easter plants and decorations are nice complements to the other flowers and plants the couples bring.
Happy Easter tide. Today we conclude the “Octave of Easter”. It is the first week after this extraordinary moment in which God so loves the world that he sends his son to die for us sinners as if each of us is the only one. He then offers the resurrection to show us that nothing will separate us from the Love of God in Jesus Christ.
We invite you to read through the 2nd edition of the Salem Council newsletter. Many thanks to their editor, Richard Olivier, for putting this together!
