This past week, I was co-co-manager at the local service camp Catholic HEART Workcamp at Arlington Catholic. CHWC has been around since 1993, but it was back in the Boston area for the first time since 2020. Campers raised money, traveled many miles, and slept on the classroom floors to serve the communities of Arlington, Lynn, Salem, and more.
I have been involved with CHWC since 2008, first as a camper, then staff for six years, one year as a director, and now for the first time as a (co-co) manager. It was indeed an amazing experience. The residents were so grateful that people were helping them with their to-dos lists and how great the teens work to get the projects done. We had 175 campers, 21 groups, and over 30 residents.
MQOA was one of the residents that CHWC helped. The group organized the new kitchenette at IC hall, cleaned the tables, organized the seasonal decorations, and made sure each pew has a QR code. The group moved on to St. James for some general cleaning and then on to a local resident.
The campers were just amazing. They were prayerful, helpful and just filled with joy. They were sharing Jesus's love so boldly this week. They gave me so much hope for their generation.
For next year, I hope to serve the community of Salem more. So look out for announcements in January to sign up to be a resident.
