This week we put together a mailing, a postcard with our Christmas schedule on it- if you're on our mailing list you should get yours in the next few days. I spent a few hours sticking the mailing labels on the cards, so I got to see the names of nearly everyone on our list. There were names I didn't recognize, but many of the names were familiar to me. I saw the names of people who have not been able to come back to in-person Mass, due to illness or fear, or some other reason. I saw the names of people who, for whatever reason, haven't been engaging with us for a long time, but who have never quit the parish officially. I saw names of new parishioners who have just recently joined us. I saw names of people who I miss seeing, people who I see often now, people who I am so thankful to know, people whose stories of suffering and of joy have moved me and made me grateful for this job of mine, which is so often about hearing people's stories, and walking with people on their journey. Our parish holds multitudes; thousands of stories that are true and rich and deep, and it is a privilege and an honor for me to have been able to pray over each of the names on those postcards before they went out in the mail. We hope you will accept the invitation and join us to celebrate Christmas this year, to rejoice with us, to add your story to the stories of the other people who will gather to celebrate the hope and joy that comes with Christmas.
