Almost everyone I talk to lately is feeling the weight of Lent this year. Over and over I hear people saying “I can’t give up one more thing. I can’t handle extra stress this season. I just don’t have it in me to add suffering or sacrifice to my plate.” I get it.
In Lent we talk about penitential actions, little things we can do to show God that we’re sorry for our sins, and ways to rededicate our efforts, but that doesn’t mean we have to choose to suffer. The word “repent” means to change how we think about something; to change our minds, to turn. Lent is a time for us to think about how we’re living our lives, to notice where we’ve failed and then work to do better by God.
So there’s no need to beat ourselves up in Lent, and no reason to feel ashamed for needing some care for our souls. It’s not about adding suffering; it’s about wanting to do better because God, who is Love, loves us.
So we invite you to spend a little time in soul-care in the coming weeks; take some time for prayer, for silence, take a walk in a beautiful setting. Join us for inspiring music on Wednesday nights from 7-8:00PM at Immaculate Conception church, to sing along or just listen to beautiful music with hopeful messages in a gorgeous setting.
