I remember as a young boy, that whenever I was going out to an event in which I would be with other adults, (think sporting events, CYO, Mass, school events etc.) my parents would remind me that my comportment mattered. “Remember”, they would say, “you are carrying our name too. Give them a good reason to call us and say something positive”. I am thinking about this as we start this new season of Lent with a generosity challenge. I am grateful to Laura Meisenhelter and Margo for this idea. This week we will be giving out paper sheets with flowers drawn on them and will ask you to write in them acts of generosity. These actions are broadly designed, from prayer to almsgiving to sacrifices for others to help us have a spirit filled, generous Lent. We invite you do one from the list or something you do and to fill in each day one act of generosity. Please do this for six weeks and bring them back to the church and we will post them in the foyer. I hope that people will see and be inspired by the generosity of the parish particularly during this Lenten period. I hope your “comportment” during this Lenten season will cause others to admire, wonder and ask about the reason for your generosity and good works. We hope this parish Lenten work will inspire more people to come and experience the Church and begin a relationship with Jesus. As we move from week to week, I hope you will see in a very visual and concrete way the beauty of the souls of this parish in their prayer, sacrifice and almsgiving. At the end of the Lenten journey and as we move to the Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday we hope to use all the good works in the celebrations. As part of our Holy Saturday celebration when we light our Easter fire, the papers will help us to have a fire whose flames and smoke reach up to God. This weekend we also kick off our Annual Catholic Appeal and hope that you are considering a donation to the Cardinal to help with the works of the entire Archdiocese. Thanks again to Maeve and Patrick, our coordinators and to Angie for helping with the Spanish community’s appeal translation.
Peace, Father Murray
Building news: The floors at Immaculate are mostly done and the benches and all the furniture are being re-installed. WE hope to be back in the main church for daily masses and then in the chapel by the first full week of Lent. Thanks to Jim Moriarity and Moriarty Hardwood Floors for this great work. This week we had a problem with a hot water heater in the offices and conference room. When is spring?
