Last week I heard a podcaster say "if I hear the word 'unprecedented' one more time, I'm gonna lose it!" So forgive me for using it in my title. But... seriously, these days... it seems like there's literally no precedent for anything!
This week we had to make an unprecedented decision; whether or not to hold our first night of Alpha, or to postpone in light of what was really an unprecedented event, the invasion of the capitol building. It was hard to know if we should go ahead, and offer a non-bad-news space for people, or to wait until we all knew how the day's events would shake out.
We did postpone, and it was a difficult decision. But I hope the message we communicated was that we are a Church who are in the world- who care about what's happening in the world around us, who don't live in a bubble of denial about the times we live in.
Because, we do care. We are in the world. We see the bad news, and we answer that with Good News.
So we start again, this Wednesday Jan. 13 at 7:00 PM. If you've never tried Alpha before, I hope you'll come and see. If you've already experienced Alpha, I hope you'll invite someone else to try it out, and I hope you'll pray for the guests and team for this series, our 19th in the parish.
