Did you see this!? I have been following the story of the new Mars rover, Perseverance. I am inspired by the idea that such a thing can even be done, impressed by the people who knew how to do it, and astounded by the beauty of creation, way out there in the universe. And this team, this team that had plenty to do, went an extra mile to embed a positive message in the parachute for the rover! And what’s more, tons of people invested hours and energy into interpreting that coded message. Amazing! This weekend, our 20th Alpha group will live their “day away.” On that day, our guests will be introduced, or re-introduced, to the Holy Spirit. In our How To Catholic gatherings, we’ve been talking about the Holy Spirit, too, and it’s always fascinating to me to hear people’s stories about how they understand the Spirit, who they understand the Spirit to be. Trying to figure this mystery out is ultimately fruitless, because we are human, and it can be frustrating to try. But when we look hard, when we lean into praying for insight, when we ask the Holy Spirit to come, and the Spirit comes, there is amazement. It’s worthwhile wrestling because the Spirit wants to be present to us, and God wants to be known by us, as much as we’re able to know God. And Lent is the perfect time to grow in our relationship with God through Jesus, and to expand our own openness to the Spirit. Join us in prayer this Lent, at Mass on the weekends, online Mass on Tuesday morning and in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament online on Tuesday evenings. Jump in to our new Family Alpha on Tuesday nights on Zoom. Pray the Stations of the Cross on Fridays online, or anytime in the side lawn at Immaculate Conception church. There’s more… check out our Lent page for all of it, and jump in to the amazing work of the Spirit in your life.
