During the week on prayer in our last series of Alpha, I heard myself telling the guests that I’m “not a very good prayer.” I regretted saying it, because I don’t want to teach the idea that someone can be “bad” at praying… the truth remains, though, that my prayer life can feel weak and stunted, maybe more often than not. Praying well has been a lifelong pursuit for me; I have always felt like there was some missing piece that, if put into place, would bring me into a life of beautiful prayer. I imagine myself still, silent, perfectly in tune with God, to the sounds of angels strumming harps. In real life, I am fidgety, unfocused, and impatient in my dedicated prayer times… and my spontaneous prayers often come out as “SERIOUSLY God? Are you KIDDING RIGHT NOW?” I think ultimately that I’m the one who gets in my own way for having a better prayer life, and this year I’m determined to tackle this problem for myself. I’m starting this Sunday, and you’re invited to join me. Sunday night at 7:30 PM on Zoom, join me (and the 20+ others who have already registered) for an 8-week look at prayer with The Prayer Course. Brought to you by the same people who produced Alpha, the course is a walk through the many ways, reasons, and benefits to praying, through the lens of the Lord’s Prayer (Our Father). If you’re feeling like a prayer rookie, or if you’re a pro who feels like you need to brush up on your fundamentals, join us. You can find out more by clicking below to visit our event page.
