This day we celebrate the heart of the truth of our faith. The truth is that there is nothing that can separate us from the love of God in Jesus Christ and that changes everything in our lives and of those who believe in Jesus. The agony in the Garden and the final days of deceit, lies, treachery, and murderous violence have been transformed into the joy of the resurrection and the message of God’s peace, a peace that cannot be taken from us, is now given as an act of love and forgiveness for all creation. Something new has happened and we come to celebrate it starting with the Mass of the Resurrection. Today we renew our baptism vows and will continue this practice until Pentecost. It is a reminder that in the resurrection, which we have entered through baptism, we begin anew also. We remember, as the song goes, how much God loves us and then like Peter, in the first reading today, we go out to share the message boldly. We continue to invite others to faith in Jesus Christ to fulfill our mission and this week we celebrate four new members of the church.
Congratulations and welcome to Tammie Day, Rowan Johnson, Chelsea Serzan, and Kim Millican! At the Easter Vigil and this morning, they have become members of the church, professing their faith in Jesus and accepting the teachings of the church. There is still more to learn, and we look forward to growing with all of you in your discipleship. Last night at the vigil, Chelsea, Kim, and Rowan were welcomed into the church, confirmed, and received first communion. This morning, we baptized and confirmed Tammy, and then at Mass she will receive her first communion. As a “cradle” Catholic, I am always moved by this truth, that our faith, individually and collectively, can inspire others to look at Jesus and see Him in us and the church and decide to follow Him through the church. Welcome again. Across the world today, the church welcomes people who have been on a journey to God through the Church. It is our holy pride to say that our parish has welcomed people who want to know Jesus and be in a relationship with him. May all those who have begun to profess their faith in Jesus continue to grow and deepen their relationship with him. On behalf of the staff here at our parish, we wish you all a holy and blessed Easter day and season.
Peace,
Father Murray
This week we say farewell to Dr. John Carlo Pierce who has served as our Music director for the last 10 months. I hope you will join me in offering thanks to him for all that he has brought to our parish. His skills, professionalism, and enthusiasm have helped us all to continue to appreciate the importance and gift of lifting our minds and hearts to God using song. Dr. Pierce, thank you for all you have brought to our parish. We wish you well in your next endeavor and hope that you will continue to be a blessing to the church to which you are going. Our loss is their great benefit. Peace be with you in all your journeys.
Catholic Appeal. This week we remember that the Catholic appeal is still going on. We still need your help if you have not already donated. Thanks again for your generosity.
Building news: Please be watching for the contractors for both buildings this week. The school project will be starting also according to the Lessors.
The front of IC will be repointed and cracks will be repaired. The arches need work too under the new paint job, so that might be evident too.
