Happy Mother’s Day to all those who are mothers, have been nurtured by a mother figure and who are remembering their mothers. I have many memories of my own mother, some of them fond, some of them comical and other moments that were filled with “Mom wisdom”. In all of them, whether I was the recipient of hugs and warmth or (ahem) instructions for future success, I was sure of the love that she had for me and for all my siblings. In thinking of this Sunday’s Gospel, I remember my parents calling us for supper and being able to pick out my Mother’s voice from the other “Bobs” that were being called home from our and other side doors. I also remember my mother going from a gentle “Bob” to a full, “Robert William MurraY NOW!”. I set a record for the 100-yard dash that night leaving the field and my neighborhood friends. Still stands. You can look it up. Shifting gears and going to the Gospel, I want to say that the importance of the voice cannot be underestimated, particularly when it comes to Jesus. We remember that after his resurrection, it was his voice in most of the appearances that confirmed and reassured those who were witnesses to this miracle. St. Paul, in his conversion, experienced the voice of Jesus as an invitation to stop the direction of his life and begin to use all his gifts for the growth of the church. It is still true today, that if we quiet ourselves and listen, we will hear the voice of the Lord and be able to hear and follow Him. It brings us back to that dangerous part of the Our Father, i.e., “…. thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”. On the other hand, the consolation of today’s Gospel is the assurance that none of us will be lost, that it is the will of the Father that we all receive the promise of salvation. We have only to live it by following the master. This week we might ask ourselves how we have tried to quiet our hearts, minds, and souls that we might hear his voice and follow him every day. Thanks to the Knights who were here to distribute flowers to our Moms. Peace, Father Murray
Building news: The Koi pond is back and thanks to Lou S, is ready for stocking with fish. The stairs in front of Immaculate are now done and I do not anticipate any more projects of that scope. However, if we have a carpenter and painters around, we are looking to see if someone would be willing to tackle the front, side and ramp doors. (not all at once) The building is showing its age a little and if there are able bodied and willing craftsman and women, we would welcome your talent and time. Please speak to Father Murray directly.
